Garden Tuesday- Garden Haul + Chick update!

There is not much going on with my garden. I think that its about finished for the year. My tomatoes are turning brown and starting to die. Here's my garden haul for this week.

One red poblano pepper, a sprig of basil, two tomatillos a tomato and a handful of banana peppers!

Found this spider in my garden. Took a picture then went to the opposite side of my garden LOL!

Baby chick update!!

I first introduced you guys to these chicks about three weeks ago here. Well now they are so big, just look for yourself!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to take a picture of theses guy! They are super fast.

This guy here is getting red and white strip feathers on its chest along with the black and whites ones everywhere else.

This one started getting black legs a week or so ago! Look at those legs silly chicken! :) I have no clue if they are going to be hens or roosters.

Throwback Thursday- In Honor Of

If any of you guys have followed me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram then you would know that I lost a very special animal yesterday. I thought this would be a good way to honor her memory.

Her name was Sweet-pea and she was only 8 years old. She was a purebred longhorn that I raised by hand since she was two months old (her mom died). She only had two live babies both boys about 4 years apart. She was a great mom and when she didn't have a baby she watched over the babies other cows had. 

Her and this year baby, he's about 2 months here.

I know that to some people saying that I lost a member of my family might sound strange but that's the truth I was her mother, caretaker and friend. When she lost her baby last year I was right there petting her and telling her that everything will be okay and that she will make it through this.

I just never imagined that I would loss her so suddenly. The part about her death that makes me really sad is that she was fine just a hour or so before we found her in the pasture.

She left behind a 3 month old baby boy that we will now care for now that his momma is gone. Living on a place that I get to have a lot of animals I learn that I will see them again over the Rainbow Bridge. Those that don't know what I'm talking about let me share this poem with you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Knowing that I will she her again makes me feel better. I am still very sad and upset that she passed so soon and as I wipe my tears away I smile because I still will always have a piece of her with me in my heart. If you want to see pictures of her sons follow me on Instagram.

Garden Tuesday- Garden Haul + Cuteness

There is not much change in my garden from last week so I will be showing yall my garden haul this week.

I got a bunch of Black Cherry tomatoes this week. Also this week I have noticed that my Chocolate Mint has started to die from the top of the plant to the bottom. I have no clue why but if anyone has an idea as to why comment below or on Facebook please.

Garden tip of the week:

Do your research when you start thinking about purchasing vegetable plants. Make sure that they can grow in your area/zone. Like for me I live in Texas zone 8-9 and summers here can reach 100+* F so I have to find plants that can tolerate the heat and not die. So do your research.

About 3 weeks ago now we had baby chicks hatch out at our house. Unfortunately 4 died and now we have 7 little baby chicks with two mamma hens. They are so cute!

Garden Tuesday- Wind!

Killer wind!

Hi everyone! How are your gardens doing this year?

This past week or so has been super windy where I live. Earlier this year the wind was coming from the north and now from the south. I have staked up my poblano and jalapenos early this year to protect them from the wind from the north. Since the wind is now from the south its snapping the stakes or just pushing the plant over.

Another issue I still have is grasshoppers. These little guys are killing me. They eat my tomatoes, banana peppers, poblanos, basil, mint and even my jalapenos. I'm at a lost with what to do with them. I have chickens and I do let them in the garden to eat them but the grasshoppers won't go away! Any ideas or suggestions would be great folks.

Last week's post I told you guys that I got two different types of tomatoes out of my garden and I have finally tried them. The Pierce's Pride tomato taste so good! I love it. It's juicy and a little sweet. It make my mouth water it's so good! I will be planting this next year for sure.

The Rouge D' Irak Tomato to me doesn't have much flavor and is full of seeds. If you have grown tomatoes at home you know that they have a different flavor then the store bought ones. These taste like store bought tomatoes they have very little flavor! I was not impressed with these. I will probably not plant these next year.

Garden tip of the week:

Purchase good soil! I use to just plant directly into the ground until this year I splurged and went to a place that sold soil and gravel by the truck load and it was the best purchase I every could make! I recommend going to your local plant nursery and ask what they use or finding a place that sells soil by the truck load and ask what their garden quality soil is. Buy soil like this if you can is the best thing you can do for your garden.

Throwback Thursday- Country Heart

I was 6 in this picture and my brother was about 14. As yall can probally tell I grew up country! I lived on 30 acres of land with longhorns, horses and chickens. You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl!
